This trek visits the remote old busy town Hanumanchatti where the trek reaches the holy famous pilgrimage temples of Yamunotri - source of the sacred river Yamuna . Plus Alpine forests of oak, rhododendron, bhojpatra, (the famous "paper tree"), juniper, and the stately deodar. The famous Dayara, Dharba Pass & Seema bugyals (Alpine meadows) with their spectacular views of the snow capped high Himalayas , Vistas of dramatic peaks - Bandar Punchh, Black peak etc. Serene Dodi Tal (holy lake) - forest bordered and mountain rimmed is home to the famous sacred golden trout watched over by a solitary sadhu from his lonely lake side temple. Up to the mountain top meadows. Hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Chances to see ibex, snow fox, mountain crow & eagles, Seasonal contacts with Gujars (generally handsome local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking & their herds of buffalo. Visits to local picturesque mountain villages

Day By Day Itinerary
Day 1 New Delhi - Rishikesh (225 kms/6 hrs).

Drive to Rishikesh. Upon arrival at Rishikesh check in to the hotel. In the evening visit the Aarti ceremony at Swargashram. Back to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2 Rishikesh - Uttarkashi (185 kms/6 hrs)
Drive to Uttarkashi, located on the Bhagirathi River in the foothills of the Himalayas. Upon arrival at Uttarkahi check in to the hotel

UTTARKASHI AREA Vishwanath Temple: One of the major Shiva worship centers for all India, this ancient and renowned temple is an interesting and important pilgrimage and touristic monument.

Uttarkashi Town: Situated on a new lake, this clean and nature-surrounded little city features a line of ashrams along the banks of the Bhagirathi River, an early branch of the sacred Ganga.

Nehru Institute of Mountaineering: World famous institution of instruction for the mountaineer.

Day 3 Uttarkashi-Barnala (55 kms/5 hrs)
Drive 45 kms to the trail head at Barsu village and begin the trek. The steep uphill trek goes through the forest of rhododendron, oak, pine and Alpine forest, bhojpatra, (the famous "paper tree"), juniper, and stately deodars. Frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Meet with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, and Gujars. (generally muslim local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking contacts with & their herds of buffalo. Reaching Barnala camp with its summer huts of villagers.

Day 4 Barnala - Dayara Bugyal (7 kms/4 hrs)
A steep uphill walk through the Alpine forest with the languor, bakriwale and the gujars. Upon the famous bugyal of Dayara, there are panoramic views of the high Himalayan snowcapped mountains - Srikhanth, Jonli, Thalaysagar, and the Bundar Punchh Range. Camp here for the night.

Day 5 Dayara Bugyal - Day trek to Dayara Top (7 kms/6 hrs)
Wander uphill through ridges of Alpine meadows with spectacular views of the Himalaya Range and down into the valleys below. Bakriwalas and Gujars. Camp at Dayara Top with its beautiful landscapes of bugyals and vistas of mountains.

Day 6 Dayara Bugyal - Lambidhar (9 kms/8 hrs)
3 k uphill trek through the Alpine forest seeing summer huts of villagers, then 6 k downhill trek to through the bugyals (Alpine meadows) and jungles. View of Assiganga valley to Camp at Lambidhar. Meet with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, and Gujars (generally muslim local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking contacts with & their herds of buffalo.

Day 7 Lambidhar- Manjhi (10 kms/8 hrs)
7k downhill trek to Assiganga river trek goes through rain forest villagers summer huts Frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Chances to see, ibex, snow fox, mountain crow & belchers' 3k. uphill trek to Manjhi.

Day 8 Manjhi- Dodital (6 kms/3 hrs)
4k gentle up and down hill trek through the rain forest and waterfalls water streams Views down into the wooded and now steep sided and wild Assi Ganga valley. The many different kinds of Himalayan birds for bird watcher. Camp at Dodi Tal, sacred as well as scenic lake famous throughout northern India for its beauty, its religions significance and its sacred golden trout. There is a temple on the shore presided over by a local pundit. Camp on the lake shore with views up into the mountain forests

Day 9 Dodital-Dharvatop (6 kms/8 hrs)
Steep 6 k uphill trek over Dharva Pass, then gentle 1 k downhill trek. Follow a stream bordering juniper groves and then up, up into the high grasslands with fine views of Bandar Punchh mountain's snowy summit, Black Peak , etc. from the pass, also down into the Hanuman Ganga valley & Bandar Punchh valley. Meet with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, and Gujars. (generally muslim local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking contacts with & their herds of buffalo.(June - September). Camp in a bugyal at Dharva top bugyal with specutecalur views of Bundarpuch peak

Day 10 Dharvatop- Seema (10 kms/7 hrs)
Steep 3 k uphill trek over the high ridge then 5k up and downhill trek through the bugyals(alpine meadow) and high ridges different angles vies of Bundarpunch mountain. Meet with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats, and Gujars. (Generally Muslim local mountain people) famous for their high speed mountain walking contacts with & their herds of buffalo.2 k. downhill trek to Seema camp surrounded by Rhododendrons and vies of down valley and beautiful sun rise on the Bundarpunch peak.

Day 11 Seema- Jankichatti (12 kms/ 6 hrs)
12 k downhill treks through forests and villagers summer huts and village's terraces' fields down into the valley of the Yamuna River, and on to Hanuman Chatti town. Then 8 k scenic ride along the Yamuna River up to Janki Chatti. Stay in hotel (hot water for bathing!)

Day 12 Jankichatti- Yamnotri Barkot (70 kms/9hrs)
Gentle to Moderate 6 k uphill trek through farmers fields, and villagers, tea stalls and dhabas to Yamunotri Temple (one of the Char Dham - the series of holy pilgrimage sites, the four sources of the Ganges Yamuna Rivers). Pilgrims sadhus (holy men), famous hot springs to soak away the aches and pains of trekking, then back down moderate 6 k downhill trek to Janki Chatti, then 60km.scenic drive to Barkot along the Yamuna river Stay in Hotel

Day 13 Barkot - Dehradun (160 kms/ 6hrs)
8 hours by vehicle to Dehra Dun . Scenic drive through the Himalayan foothills, along the valley the Yamuna River , above terraced fields, looking down on villages clinging to mountain spurs above fertile fields in the valley below. Through the famous British Raj era 'hill station' of Mussouri, and on down the slopes into the capital of Uttarakhand, Dehra Dun , famous as a center for mountain research and expensive private schools for India 's wealthy.

Day 14 Dehradun - Delhi (240 kms/7hrs)
Return drive to Delhi (Possible to stop at Haridwar to explore this popular and beautiful shrine town. One/two hours extra)
