Khatling Glacier Trek
This trek follows the Bhilangna River upto Khatling Glacier, through the rain forest, visiting major waterfalls, plus Alpine forests of bhojpatra (the famous "paper tree"), juniper, and the stately deodar. Vistas of spectacular ice covered peaks of the high Himalayas - Thalaysagar, Jonli, Kedarnath peaks, Kedardome, Jogin Massif, etc. Frequent sightings of lithe and lively langoor (black faced monkeys) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Chances to see ibex, snow fox, mountain crow & eagles. Hardy bukeriwale (mountain herders) with their flocks of sheep & goats.
Visits to picturesque mountain villages. Beginning of the trek in the fascinating spiritual & philosophical center of India - colorful Swagashram at Rishkesh and end of the trek fascinating spiritual city Haridwar.

Day 1 : New Delhi - Rishikesh (225 kms/6 hrs)
In the morning drive to Rishikesh. Upon arrival at Rishikesh transfer to the hotel. In the evening visit the Aarti ceremony at Swargashram. Back to hotel for overnight stay.
Rishikesh : Rishikesh is the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttaranchal. It's also starting point on the journey to the sacred sources of the Ganga and the Yamuna Rivers. According to legend, Prince Bhagirath performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to Sage Kapila's curse. The penance was answered and the river Ganga trickled forth from Lord Shiva's locks and its bountiful water revived the sons of King Sagara. In the tradition of Bhagirath, devout Hindus stand in the sacred waters here, praying for the salvation of their ancestors.
Day 2 : Rishikesh - Ghuttu (200 kms/8hrs)
Scenic drive through mountain terraced field to New Teri, mountain top town with spectacular views of the Himalayan mountain range. Than road goes down to one of the biggest dams in India - Tehri dam at the confluence of the Bagirathi (Ganga) and the Bhilangana River. The road goes along the Tehri dam lake about 20 kms till it arrives in the Ghansali small town. 32 kms scenic drive along the Bhilangna River to Ghuttu. Stay at GMVN guest house or camp.
Day 3 : Ghuttu - Reeh (10kms/5hrs)
Moderate uphill 10 kms trek through Alpine forest, rhododendron, pine, and stately deodar forests - trek passes through mountain village's terraced fields, then along the Bhilangna River. Frequent sightings of families of lithe & lively langoor (like a black-faced monkey) swinging through the tree canopy high above. Camp at Reeh surrounded by forest and option to stay in GMVN guest house and visit the mountain trival villge Reeh.
Day 4 : Reeh - Gangi (10kms/5hrs)
Uphill 8 kms and 2 kms moderate trek through the forest and ridges and meeting villagers on the way with their cattle by their summer huts. - up the valley with views back down into the Ghutu valley, then along the Bhilangana River. Arrive Gangi village, stay at GMVN guest house, and visit Gangi village, a real tribal village which is 20kms distant from the nearest road head, with views of the Himalayas.
Day 5 : Gangi - Kalyani (8kms/4hrs)
Down hill 4 kms trek goes through the forest and some land slides to the bank of the Bhilangna River, then 2k.s along the Bhilangna River, and 2kms steep up hill to Kalayani. Kalyani is a beautifull camp side surrounded by forest and spectecular views of the Thalaysagar peak - views back down into the Gangi valley.
Day 6 : Kalyani - Kharsoli( 10kms/6hrs)
Moderate 10 kms uphill trek through the rain forest and bottom of the valley along the Bhilangna River, chance to see bear, marmot, ibex, and snow fox - many different kinds of Himalayan birds. Through bugyals (Alpine meadows). Camp at Kharsoli, surrounded by forest.
Day 7 : Kharsoli - Chowki (9kms/7hrs)
Moderate 9 kms uphill trek through the forest along the Bhilangna River. Through some landslides with views of Bhilangna valley. Meet with hardy bakriwale (mountain headers) with their flocks of sheep & goats. Cross the Bhilanga river (foot bridge) to camp at Chowki, which is in a bugyal surrounded by Juniper by the side of a mountain river.
Day 8 : Chowki - Khatling Glacier (10kms/7hrs)
Moderate to uphill 10 kms along the Bhilangna River through the bugyals and many small streams and rivers and moraines. Spectacular views of high Himalayas - Thalaysagar, Jonly, Gangotri Massif & Jogin, etc Camp at Khatling Glacier - it's also calls Zero Point with spectacular views down the valley.
Day 9 : Khatling Glacier - Chowki (10kms/6hrs)
Moderate 10 kms downhill trek crossing mountain torrents, along the Bhilangna River, through the moraines & juniper, to the camp at Chowki, surrounded by junipers. Beautiful camp site on the river bank.
Day 10 : Chowki - Kharsoli( 9kms/6hrs)
Modrate 9 kms downhill trek across the Bhilangna River through the forest and landslides. Camp at Kharsoli bugyals surrounded by rain forest.
Day 11 : Kharsoli - Reeh (16kms/9hrs)
Down hill and uphill 16 kms trek along the Bhilangna River through the forest and some big water falls via Gangi village - camp at Reeh.
Day 12 : Reeh - Haridwar (230kms/10hrs)
Down hill trek 10 kms along the Bhilangna River and 220 k by vehicle by the same road as mentioned on "Day 2". Reach Haridwar to explore this popular and beautiful shrine town as opposed to Rishikesh. One hour further. Stay at hotel. Opportunity to visit and participate in the colorful evening "Aarti" river-side puja (religious service) in honor of the river godess, Ganga.
Day 13 : Haridwar - Delhi (200kms/5hrs)
